The providers of Quality Training Products

proudly conducted by BETA PTY. LTD. Environmental Training and Watercycle Managers

Historical Perspective:

The course was established in 1998 in response to a request from the AWTS Manufacturers Association for the establishment of an accredited training course for maintenance contractors servicing domestic aerated wastewater treatment systems.

A committee was convened consisting of industry representatives, local councils, Department of Health, Department of Local Government, senior scientists and manufacturers. In 1999 the first pilot course was conducted and V.E.T.A.B. accreditation was obtained.

The course was designed specifically for contractors servicing aerated wastewater systems. Historically, research and surveys conducted by local councils and the N.S.W. Department of Health had found that the maintenance (or lack of) of such systems was contributing to a high failure rate of systems installed in domestic situations throughout the state. In order to rectify the high failure rate, the course was introduced to provide a base line for the training of maintenance contractors of aerated wastewater treatment systems and a benchmark against which local councils could assure the quality of service contractors operating in their own local government areas.

Whilst the course is specifically aimed at maintenance contractors, it has become apparent that environmental health professionals responsible for such systems in local council areas have also found the course useful in updating and refreshing their level of skills with the maintenance of these systems.

Description:

This module shows participants how to safely and efficiently maintain a healthy Domestic AWTS for single households in accordance with manufacturer's specifications, Australian Standards, Best Industry Practice and the appropriate Acts and Regulations applying in the State, Territory or Country in which the Course is being conducted.

Hours:

24 hours formal off-the-job training, plus self paced; on-the-job support training designed to meet the needs of the individual and the organisation. Students spend 16 hours in the classroom and 8 hours in the field visiting a working STP and examining at least 2 AWTS, discussing the maintenance procedures, conducting tests and identify the parts of working systems and land application systems on-site.

1. Water Industry Experience deemed sufficient by SWC & BETA Pty Ltd
2. Basic Numeracy and Literacy Skills

Location:

The module is conducted at an appropriate workskills-training centre, or on-site with access to standard training room facilities and demonstration area for assessment. The course is fully portable having been conducted at a number of locations throughout the State of N.S.W. In other states, territories and countries the modules on local law can be rewritten and modified to reflect the Legislation, Standards and Industry Practices applicable at that place and time.
